If a speaker or discussion leader is unavailable, consider the following:
  • Option A:
    • 1. Label one end of the room ‘Bulls’, the other end ‘Bears’, and the center of the room ‘unsure’.
    • 2. Ask people to declare their expectation of the S&P for the next month by locating themselves in the room.
    • 3. Ask each person to state why they take their current position.
    • 4. Ask people to relocate themselves based on the comments from 3.
    • 5. If everyone is in one location and all people are representative of the whole market then do they want to change their location to be a contrary to the group.
  • Note: Variations on the above might be to change the labels in #1 to ‘Technical vs Fundamental’.

  • Option B:
    • 1. Ask people to report on favorite indicators & why they like it.
    • 2. Discuss the pro & con of the different indicators.
    • 3. Ask each person to report on new ideas discovered from 1 & 2.
  • Option C:
    • 1. Ask each person to introduce themselves to someone they do not know well in the group.
    • 2. Ask each person to summarize the type of investing OR what they want from the group.
    • 3. After 15 minutes, ask each group of two to join with another group of two and repeat #1 & #2.
    • 4. After 15 minutes, ask each group of FOUR to join with another group of FOUR and repeat #1 & #2.
    • 5. Continue to repeat the pattern in #1, 2, 3, & 4 until the group has joined into one large group.
    • 6. Ask each person to sum-up new tips or insights they may discover as a result of the process.
  • Option D:
    • 1. Ask 2 bull and 2 bears to act as panel members.
    • 2. Discuss why they are bulls or bears.
    • 3. Give panel members 5 minutes to express reasons for their view.
    • 4. Moderate the panel to keep time and open to audience.
